In 1940, George and Arthurine Renfro began selling spices and vinegar from their home in Fort Worth, Texas. Arthurine, who preferred to be called Mrs. Renfro, managed meticulous bookkeeping while George excelled in sales. Together, they laid the foundation for their thriving business.
Their small kitchen operation soon grew, evolving from spices to syrups and chow chow. Eventually, they moved to a larger facility on Stella Street. By 1963, the Mrs. Renfro’s brand was born. It captured the essence of their homemade roots and honoured Arthurine’s pivotal role.
The second generation, including Bill and Jack Renfro, took the reins in the 1970s. They expanded into hot sauces and picante sauces. The 1990s saw the launch of Mrs. Renfro’s salsa, known for unique and gourmet flavours like Habanero, Black Bean, and Peach. This innovation established Mrs. Renfro’s as a beloved name in salsas.
Today, the third generation, including Doug, Becky, and James Renfro, continues the family tradition from the original Texas location. They maintain the values of authenticity and quality. From their home base, they now sell Mrs. Renfro’s salsa across all 50 states and over 30 countries. They stay true to the vision of family and flavour that started it all.
“It’s different when the business is yours, and you had a part in it.” – Bill Renfro
