I fully expected this to taste like fizzy nonsense and regret. Instead, the maniacs at Hott. have somehow created a genuinely excellent sweet chilli sauce inspired by Scotland’s other national obsession.
The familiar Irn Bru flavour floats through the sauce without becoming overpowering, while the habaneros add a fruity warmth and the miso brings enough savoury depth to stop the whole affair descending into dessert territory.
Brilliant with chicken strips, sausage sandwiches, chips and late-night takeaway food that deserves better than supermarket sauce packets. Weird? Absolutely. But it works far better than it has any right to.
